Jackson State at Seattle

SEATTLE (Interstat) — In a wild, back-and-forth affair that saw 25 runs and 26 hits, the Jackson State Tigers outlasted the Seattle Redhawks 13-12 on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in a non-conference baseball game that stretched from afternoon into evening.

The Tigers, who evened their season record at 7-7, appeared to have the game firmly in hand multiple times, building leads of 5-0 and 13-7, only to see the Redhawks mount a furious late-inning rally. Seattle, which fell to 2-12, sent 11 men to the plate in a five-run eighth inning to tie the game, capped by a dramatic two-run home run from shortstop Kenny Rhein, before Jackson State’s bullpen finally slammed the door.

The most critical juncture of the game came in the bottom of the eighth inning. Trailing 13-7, the Redhawks’ offense, which had been held to just eight hits, erupted against Jackson State reliever Christian Delgado and his replacement, Shem Harris. After a walk, a balk, and a single loaded the bases, Jaxson Stevenson drove in a run with an infield single. A sacrifice fly by Parker Knowles and an RBI groundout by Hunter Komine made it 13-10. Then, with two outs, Rhein launched his two-run homer to left field, knotting the score at 13 and sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

Jackson State immediately turned to Jaedeyn Edwards out of the bullpen, who struck out pinch-hitter Riley Hale to end the inning and stop the bleeding. In the ninth, Derek Arrocha retired Seattle in order, striking out Carlson H to strand the potential tying run at third base and secure the victory.

The Tigers’ offense was relentless, pounding out 18 hits. Center fielder Isaac McClenty led the charge, going 4 for 5 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. Catcher Hederick Torres drove in four runs on a perfect 3-for-3 day that included a double, while left fielder Pierre Cabral was 3 for 5 with a solo home run and two RBIs. Designated hitter Edwin Lemus Hudson also went 3 for 3, scoring four times.

For Seattle, Rhein’s late heroics highlighted his 1-for-4, two-RBI day. Komine drove in three runs despite a 1-for-5 effort, capitalizing on a key two-run single in the fourth that was aided by a Jackson State error.

Jackson State starter Trae Burton provided three strong innings, allowing no hits and one unearned run. The Tigers used eight pitchers in total to navigate the slugfest. Seattle’s staff struggled to contain the Tigers’ lineup, issuing eight walks and hitting two batters.

The win gives Jackson State a 2-0 series lead in the three-game weekend set. The teams conclude the series on Sunday.
