North Carolina Rallies Past Virginia in 12-Inning ACC Opener

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Interstat) — Tyler Howe’s walk-off single in the 12th inning lifted North Carolina to an 8-7 win over Virginia in the first game of an Atlantic Coast Conference doubleheader Saturday at Boshamer Stadium.

The Tar Heels erased a five-run deficit, tying it in the ninth on Howe’s solo homer and again in the 12th on an RBI double by Alex Hull. Howe then won it with a two-out single, scoring Hull. Virginia built a 7-1 lead early behind a two-run homer from Ethan Murray and a two-run single from Anthony Gracia. North Carolina starter Caden Glauber steadied the game with 5 1/3 strong innings, allowing one earned run and striking out eight. Both teams are now 13-3.
