Lumberjacks Rally From 10-Run Deficit, Stun Cardinals in Wild Ninth
NACOGDOCHES, Texas (Interstat) — Stephen F. Austin staged a stunning comeback from an 11-run deficit, scoring 13 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Lamar 14-11 in a wild non-conference baseball game Sunday evening at Jaycees Field.
The Lumberjacks (10-6) sent 18 batters to the plate in the eighth, erasing an 11-1 margin. Mark Henning’s three-run homer in the sixth began the rally, and his two-run single in the eighth tied the game. Julian Swift and Juan Cantua each drove in two runs during the historic inning.
Lamar (9-7) built its large lead behind Brayden Evans and Kevin Duran, who each homered. The Cardinals collected 15 hits but could not hold off the relentless Stephen F. Austin offense, which finished with 14 hits.
