Houston Christian at McNeese State

Preview: Houston Christian Huskies at McNeese State Cowboys

LAKE CHARLES, La. (Interstat) — The Houston Christian Huskies and McNeese State Cowboys will continue their Southland Conference series Saturday evening at Sudduth Coliseum.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 81 degrees.

The Huskies (7-7) took the series opener Friday, 3-1, behind a strong pitching performance. McNeese State (6-7) will look to even the series at home.

A key matchup will feature Houston Christian’s hot-hitting Katcher Halligan against McNeese State right-hander Cooper Golden, who started Friday’s loss. Halligan is batting .500 (12 for 24) with two home runs and 11 RBIs over his last eight games. He homered in Tuesday’s game at Texas.

Golden pitched five innings Friday, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. In his previous start on Feb. 27, he threw six no-hit innings in a win over Nicholls State.

The Huskies have won four of their last five games. The Cowboys had a four-game winning streak snapped with Friday’s loss.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-5 Houston Christian victory.

Following Saturday’s game, the series finale is set for Sunday afternoon. Houston Christian visits Tarleton State next weekend, while McNeese State travels to face Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday before a series at Lamar.
