Nachtsheim’s 16-K Gem Powers Cowboys Past Huskies in Series Opener

LAKE CHARLES, La. (Interstat) — Eric Nachtsheim struck out 16 in a complete-game three-hitter as the McNeese State Cowboys defeated the Houston Christian Huskies 4-2 on Friday in the first game of a Southland Conference doubleheader at Sudduth Coliseum.

Nachtsheim allowed two solo home runs but dominated otherwise, walking none over nine innings. His performance backed a 10-hit McNeese State attack. Designated hitter Hayden Stringfellow went 4 for 4 with three RBIs, including a two-run double in the first inning that tied the game 2-2 after Houston Christian had taken an early lead.

The Huskies’ runs came on homers by Jackson in the third and Hendricks in the seventh. McNeese State broke the tie in the fifth on an RBI double from Marcus Heusohn, who later scored on Stringfellow’s second double.

With the win, McNeese State evened its record at 7-7. Houston Christian fell to 7-8.
