Highlanders Look to Extend Win Streak Against Struggling Peacocks

NEWARK, N.J. (Interstat) — The NJIT Highlanders will look to build on a decisive victory and continue the Saint Peter’s Peacocks’ season-opening woes when the teams meet again Friday evening.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the unnamed ballpark.

NJIT (4-5) routed Saint Peter’s 13-3 on Thursday, powered by a five-RBI performance from left fielder Austin Francis. The Highlanders have won three of their last four.

Saint Peter’s (0-8) remains in search of its first win. The Peacocks have been outscored 83-13 during their losing streak.

A key matchup will feature two hot hitters. NJIT’s Francis is 7 for 15 with seven RBIs over his last four games. For Saint Peter’s, first baseman Bobby Lavely has shown pop, homering twice in his last five contests, including a two-run shot in Thursday’s loss.

The Highlanders’ pitching staff, led by starter Mark Scamardella’s solid 4 2/3-inning outing Thursday, will aim to contain a Peacocks offense averaging just 1.6 runs per game. Saint Peter’s starter was not announced.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, NJIT is projected to win 3-0.

The teams are scheduled to continue their series Saturday and Sunday afternoons at the same venue.
