Louisville at Western Kentucky
HADLEY, Ky. (Interstat) — The Louisville Cardinals look to rebound from a tough weekend series when they visit the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in a midweek nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Nick Denes Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with temperatures around 54 degrees.
Louisville (16-8) arrives after dropping two of three at North Carolina, including a 7-6 loss Sunday. The Cardinals’ offense showed life in the finale, led by first baseman Tague Davis, who went 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs.
A player to watch for Louisville is right-hander Colton Hartman. In his last outing Sunday, he provided 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one earned run. Over his last five appearances, he has 20 strikeouts in 17 innings.
Western Kentucky (13-11) seeks to reset after being swept at Jacksonville State, culminating in a 10-0 loss Sunday. The Hilltoppers’ bullpen was a bright spot in the series finale, with Nathan Lawson tossing four hitless, scoreless innings in relief.
Lawson, a key arm for WKU, has been effective lately, allowing no earned runs in three of his last four appearances out of the pen.
The Cardinals have dominated recent high-scoring affairs, averaging 12.6 runs over their last five victories. The Hilltoppers have struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses over their past eight games.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final is Louisville 8, Western Kentucky 6.
Following this game, Louisville opens Atlantic Coast Conference play at home against Pittsburgh on Friday. Western Kentucky begins a Conference USA road series at Sam Houston on Friday.
