Mississippi Valley State at Tennessee-Martin
Rainy Doubleheader Opener Awaits Skyhawks, Delta Devils
MARTIN, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks and Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils will open a three-game series with a doubleheader on Friday, with Game 1 scheduled for a wet Skyhawk Park.
First pitch is set for Friday afternoon under a forecast of 68 degrees and rain. The teams enter with nearly identical early-season struggles. The Skyhawks (3-6) host after dropping two of three to Bradley last weekend. The Delta Devils (2-7) arrive following a 15-7 road win at Alcorn State on Sunday that snapped a four-game skid.
Mississippi Valley State will look to outfielder Aiden Meyer to continue his recent power surge. Meyer drove in five runs on a home run as part of a 2-for-5 performance in the win over Alcorn State. Prior to that outburst, he had been held hitless in his previous three games.
Tennessee-Martin counters with third baseman Cameron Greene, who is coming off a perfect 3-for-3 day with two RBIs in Sunday’s 11-8 loss to Bradley. Greene’s production has been sporadic, with his other hit in the last five games being a solo home run in a Feb. 20 win over Nicholls State.
On the mound, the Delta Devils could leverage momentum from reliever Jace Jones, who threw three hitless, scoreless innings with three strikeouts in Sunday’s victory. The Skyhawks saw a solid start from Maxwell Schumacher last time out, who allowed two earned runs over four innings against Bradley.
According to Interstat, the Skyhawks are heavy favorites with an 80.60% probability to win. The service’s game simulator projects a narrow 3-2 victory for Tennessee-Martin.
The series continues with the second game of Friday’s doubleheader, followed by a single game Saturday and another on Sunday.
