Preview: La Salle Explorers at Delaware Blue Hens

NEWARK, Del. (Interstat) — A surging La Salle squad will look to continue its strong start when it visits struggling Delaware for a non-conference baseball game Wednesday evening.

The Explorers (5-1) have won five of their first six, including a 13-4 victory over Delaware State last Friday. The Blue Hens (1-7), meanwhile, are mired in a difficult stretch, though they are coming off a narrow 15-14 loss at Maryland on Tuesday.

La Salle’s offense is powered by designated hitter Ryan Perez, who drove in three runs in the win over Delaware State. The Explorers have scored at least seven runs in four of their six games.

Delaware’s bright spot has been left fielder Noah Burroughs. He single-handedly kept the Blue Hens competitive against Maryland, going 3 for 5 with two home runs and a staggering eight RBIs in the high-scoring defeat.

The teams met just over a week ago on Feb. 17, with Delaware securing a 6-4 home victory. That result represents La Salle’s only loss this season and one of just two wins for Delaware in the head-to-head series since 2020.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-2 victory for the visiting Explorers.

Following this matchup, La Salle begins a three-game series at Coppin State on Friday. Delaware opens a three-game home set against Rider on Friday.
