Sacramento State at Pacific
STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build momentum will meet Wednesday when the Sacramento State Hornets visit the Pacific Tigers in nonconference baseball at Klein Family Field.
Both teams enter the midweek contest with identical 3-4 records. Sacramento State is coming off a four-game home series split with Saint Joseph’s, capped by a 21-2 rout on Sunday. Pacific dropped two of three at home to Utah Tech last weekend, including an 8-5 loss on Saturday.
A key matchup will feature Sacramento State’s hot-hitting Luis Pimentel-Guerrero against a Pacific pitching staff seeking consistency. Pimentel-Guerrero, a first baseman and left fielder, is riding a four-game hitting streak. He was instrumental in Sunday’s blowout win, going 4 for 6 with a home run and four RBIs. For the series against Saint Joseph’s, he drove in five runs.
Pacific will counter with reliever Connor Raridan as a player to watch. In Saturday’s loss to Utah Tech, Raridan provided two scoreless innings of hitless relief, striking out two. His ability to stifle the Hornets’ lineup, particularly in the middle innings, could be pivotal.
The Hornets’ offense erupted for 21 runs on 18 hits in their last outing, with Sam Harry and Erick Dessens joining Pimentel-Guerrero with multiple RBIs. The Tigers’ offense, led by JT Shank’s 2-for-4 performance Saturday, will aim to rebound against Sacramento State’s pitching.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest is projected to be a tight one, with Sacramento State edging Pacific 4-3.
This game begins a home-and-home series between the regional foes, who are scheduled to meet again in Sacramento on March 11 and 13, and back in Stockton on March 14.
Following Wednesday’s game, Pacific opens a three-game road series at Grand Canyon on Friday. Sacramento State begins a three-game series at California on Friday.
