ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — The Texas-Arlington Mavericks staged a stunning eight-run rally in the first inning and held on to defeat the Texas Christian Horned Frogs 11-8 on Tuesday at Clay Gould Ballpark.

TCU built an 8-0 lead before the first out was recorded in the bottom of the first, but UTA answered immediately. The Mavericks sent 13 batters to the plate, scoring eight runs on seven hits and two TCU errors to tie the game. Xander McAfee’s two-run single highlighted the historic inning.

UTA added single runs in the sixth to secure the win. The comeback defied Interstat’s ELO projection, which gave TCU an 83.30 percent probability to win. The Horned Frogs fell to 2-2, while the Mavericks improved to 1-3.
