Virginia Remains Unbeaten, Holds Off Virginia Military Institute

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Interstat) — Virginia scored four early runs and its bullpen delivered 5 2/3 scoreless innings to defeat Virginia Military Institute 5-2 on Tuesday evening at Davenport Field.

The Cavaliers (4-0) responded immediately after the Keydets (4-1) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Virginia sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom half, scoring three runs on a two-run double by Tiroly and an RBI single from Harris. They added another run in the second and one more in the seventh.

VMI’s Bradley Garner hit a solo home run in the eighth inning for the final margin. Virginia’s relievers allowed just two hits after the fourth inning to secure the win, which was projected with an 89.4% probability by Interstat’s ELO system.
