Alabama Edges Samford in Birmingham Afternoon Affair
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Interstat) — The Alabama Crimson Tide held off a late rally to defeat the Samford Bulldogs 3-2 in a Tuesday afternoon game at Joe Lee Griffin Stadium.
Alabama, which managed only four hits, secured its third win in four games. Samford out-hit the Crimson Tide 7-4 but grounded into two double plays. The Bulldogs fell to an even 2-2.
Samford scored twice in the seventh inning on RBI singles from Boykin and Higgins to cut the deficit to one run. Alabama added an insurance run in the eighth on Steele’s two-run homer to center field, which followed Plattner’s sacrifice fly.
The Crimson Tide next host Alabama State on Wednesday. Samford opens a series at Georgia on Friday.
