Lipscomb at Central Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. (Interstat) — Jordan Thomas drove in four runs and Hutson Miles collected four hits to lead Lipscomb to a 7-4 victory over Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon at Bear Stadium in an ASUN series finale.

The Bisons jumped ahead in the first inning when Miles singled, advanced to second on a throwing error by Central Arkansas pitcher Jac Pannell and scored on Thomas’s RBI double down the left-field line. Lipscomb added to its lead in the second as a walk to Brady Carter, a walk to Connor Pippenger and a single by Cason Beddingfield loaded the bases. Miles then delivered a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Carter, giving the Bisons a 2-0 lead.

Central Arkansas got on the board in the third when Jagger Schattle homered to right field. The Bears pulled within one in the fourth when Parker Gwyn homered to left field, making the score 2-1.

Lipscomb answered in the top of the fifth. Beddingfield singled up the middle and Miles singled through the right side. Landon Stelogeannis then singled to center field, scoring Beddingfield and moving Miles to third. After a pitching change brought Silas Cowgill to the mound for the Bears, Thomas doubled to left-center, clearing the bases and driving in Stelogeannis and Miles to push the Lipscomb lead to 4-1.

Central Arkansas responded in the bottom of the fifth. Keaton Laidley led off with a home run to center field, cutting the deficit to 4-2. After a walk to Jac Runsick and Schattle being hit by a pitch, Denton Zane reached on a fielder’s choice that erased Runsick at third. With two runners on, Allen Zeb singled to load the bases. Nate Negre followed with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Schattle and making it 4-3. But the Bears left the bases loaded when Gwyn grounded into a fielder’s choice.

Lipscomb extended its lead in the seventh. Miles tripled to left-center and scored on Cam Pruitt’s double to left-center. Pruitt advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on Thomas’s single to right-center, giving the Bisons a 6-3 cushion.

Central Arkansas threatened in the bottom of the seventh when Runsick singled, but Schattle grounded into a double play, and Zane struck out to end the inning. Lipscomb added an insurance run in the eighth when Miles singled, but Stelogeannis lined into a double play. Pruitt doubled but was stranded.

The Bears attempted a rally in the ninth. Cas Shipley singled with one out and was replaced by a pinch runner, but Laidley struck out and Runsick struck out looking to end the game.
