Kent State at Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio (Interstat) — The Kent State Golden Flashes look to complete a series sweep against the Toledo Rockets on Saturday afternoon at Scott Park Baseball Complex.

First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. under cloudy skies with a temperature of 66 degrees.

Kent State (39-12, Mid-American) has won the first two games of the four-game set, both by 4-3 scores. The Golden Flashes took the opener Thursday and won again Friday. A victory Saturday would give Kent State its 40th win of the season.

Toledo (28-27) is trying to avoid being swept at home. The Rockets have lost two straight after winning four of their previous five games.

The pitching matchup features two of the MAC’s top relievers. Kent State right-hander Ciaran Caughey is expected to start. Caughey earned the win Friday, tossing six innings of scoreless ball, allowing no hits and two earned runs while striking out seven. In his last four outings, the righty has struck out 18 over 22 innings and allowed four earned runs. He has three wins in that span.

Toledo will counter with right-hander Deron Swanson. Swanson took the loss Friday despite a strong outing, allowing one earned run on two hits in four innings with five strikeouts. Over his last seven appearances, Swanson has allowed two earned runs in 16 2/3 innings with 22 strikeouts. He has three wins and a save in that stretch.

The game will be the first Saturday meeting between the teams this season. The previous two games were played Thursday and Friday.

Kent State’s offense has been led by center fielder Micah RienstraKiracofe, who went 2 for 3 with two RBIs in Friday’s win. The Golden Flashes have scored 12 runs in the series.

Toledo’s offense has been paced by right fielder Cade Baker, who went 2 for 4 with an RBI on Friday. The Rockets have scored six runs in the series.

Interstat projections favor Kent State with a 66.1 percent win probability and an 8-7 predicted final score.
