Richmond at Virginia

LAKE MONTICELLO, Va. (Interstat) — Virginia broke open a tight game with a six-run fourth inning and never looked back, routing Richmond 18-6 on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Davenport Field in a game that began in the afternoon and stretched into the evening.

The Cavaliers improved to 34-18 overall, while the Spiders fell to 30-22.

Virginia scratched out four unearned runs in the first inning against Richmond starter Khris Morris, taking a 4-1 lead after Richmond had scored an unearned run of its own in the top half. But the game remained close until the bottom of the fourth, when the Cavaliers sent 11 batters to the plate.

Antonio Perrotta led off the frame with a two-run home run, his fourth of the season, pushing Virginia’s lead to 8-3. Two batters later, after an A.J. Gracia double and a walk, Richmond reliever Sam Young entered but promptly issued a bases-loaded walk to Sam Harris that made it 9-3. R.J. Holmes followed with a two-run double, and Thomas O’Connell added a sacrifice fly to cap the rally at 12-3.

Richmond answered in the top of the fifth. Trevor Dosenbach crushed a three-run homer to deep left field, his first of the season, scoring two unearned runs after a fielding error extended the inning. The blast cut Virginia’s lead to 12-6, but the Spiders could not get closer.

Virginia tacked on six more runs over the seventh and eighth innings. Harrison Didawick delivered the decisive blow in the eighth, a three-run triple to deep center field that pushed the lead to 18-6. Didawick finished 3-for-6 with four RBIs, a double and a triple, breaking out of a recent slump in which he had gone 2-for-11 over his previous three games.

Dosenbach was the lone bright spot for Richmond, going 2-for-2 with a home run and five RBIs. Glenn Smith pitched 3 1-3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing no hits and one earned run, but the Spiders’ early deficit proved too large.

Virginia’s bullpen stabilized after a shaky start. Max Stammel, the first of five Cavaliers relievers, worked 1 2-3 innings, allowing one hit and striking out five. Christian Lucarelli struck out two in a perfect inning, and Noah Yoder fanned three over 1 1-3 innings. Lucas Hartman recorded 1 2-3 scoreless frames.

Richmond managed only five hits on the day. Aside from Dosenbach, the Spiders got singles from Ryan Recio, Jackson Kraemer and Joe Crenshaw, and a double from Dosenbach in the third inning that tied the game briefly at 3-3 before Virginia’s fourth-inning outburst.

Virginia’s nine hits included home runs from Perrotta and Gracia, who also doubled and drove in two. Holmes had a double and three RBIs, and O’Connell drove in three runs. The Cavaliers drew 11 walks, hit three batters and took advantage of three Richmond errors, scoring nine unearned runs.

The game was the final non-conference meeting between the in-state rivals before they resume league play. Richmond heads to Saint Louis for a three-game series beginning Wednesday, while Virginia travels to Louisville for a three-game set starting Thursday.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Richmond 8, Virginia 5. Interstat’s ELO system had projected Virginia with an 83.40 percent probability to win.
