Dallas Baptist at Texas Tech
LUBBOCK, Texas (Interstat) — Dallas Baptist and Texas Tech meet Tuesday at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park in a nonconference matchup that could provide momentum for both teams as they head into crucial conference series later this week.
The Patriots (28-20) visit the Red Raiders (23-24) at 6:30 p.m. First pitch is set for 84 degrees with cloudy skies.
Dallas Baptist enters with a slight edge in the standings and recent form. The Patriots took two of three from Louisiana Tech over the weekend, capping the series with a 9-7 victory Sunday. Center fielder Dylan Schlaegel led the way in that win, going 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Schlaegel, a player to watch for the Patriots, has shown power but also inconsistency at the plate. In his past 10 games, the outfielder has two multi-hit performances and four games with multiple RBIs, including a 2-for-2, two-RBI effort April 26 against Florida International. However, he has also gone hitless in five of those contests, including a 0-for-3 showing May 2 against Louisiana Tech.
Texas Tech has split results against Baylor over the weekend, winning Sunday 8-3 behind a dominant pitching performance from Donovan Becerra. The right-hander threw five scoreless innings, allowing zero hits and one earned run while striking out one. Becerra has been sharp in limited recent relief and spot-start work, tossing 7 1/3 innings across his past two appearances while allowing two earned runs.
The Red Raiders have struggled in Big 12 play, dropping three games last week against Oklahoma State before splitting the Baylor series. Texas Tech has allowed at least 10 runs in four of its past seven losses.
The teams met once earlier this season, with Dallas Baptist winning 16-10 on March 17 in Lubbock.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 victory for Dallas Baptist.
Dallas Baptist opens a three-game series at Western Kentucky on Friday. Texas Tech hosts BYU for a three-game Big 12 series beginning Thursday.
