Queens (NC) at Duke

DURHAM, N.C. (Interstat) — A simulation favors Queens (NC) in a 3-2 upset Tuesday when the Royals visit Duke for a non-conference baseball game. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. No temperature was forecast.

Queens (NC) (13-33) carries a nine-game road losing streak into Durham Athletic Park. Duke (23-24) has dropped four of its last five.

The Royals are projected to win by the Interstat game simulator despite entering with the worst record among the two teams.

First baseman Grayson Childers is a player to watch for Queens. In his last 10 games, Childers hit .333 (8-for-24) with two home runs and four RBIs. He went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs in Sunday’s 14-4 loss at West Georgia.

For Duke, right-handed reliever Bennett LaPalm has been effective recently. In his last four outings, LaPalm has allowed one earned run over 4 2/3 innings with five strikeouts. He threw 1 2/3 hitless innings Sunday in a 13-0 loss at North Carolina.

Queens dropped its last game 14-4 at West Georgia on Sunday. Childers led the Royals with three hits, a home run and two RBIs. Third baseman Anibal Rivera added a home run and two RBIs for Queens.

The Royals have lost nine straight road games and 12 of their last 13 overall. Their last road win came April 12 at Gardner-Webb.

Duke fell 13-0 in seven innings Sunday at North Carolina. LaPalm was the most productive Blue Devil, tossing 1 2/3 hitless innings. Drew Bryan and Jack Hedrick each pitched a scoreless inning.

The Blue Devils have lost four of five, including three of four to conference rival North Carolina. Duke’s pitching staff has allowed 10 or more runs in three of those losses.

Following Tuesday, Queens hosts North Florida for a three-game series starting Friday. Duke opens a three-game series at Georgia Tech on the same day.
