Army at Navy
CAPE SAINT CLAIRE, Md. (Interstat) — The Army Black Knights and Navy Midshipmen renew their storied rivalry Saturday afternoon at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium in a Patriot League baseball matchup.
Army (26-17) enters on a high after a 7-0 shutout of Long Island on Tuesday, backed by a three-pitcher combined one-hitter. Navy (29-15) dropped a 13-inning 5-4 decision at Bucknell on Monday despite a dominant relief outing from Jackson Beattie.
The teams met in West Point in late March, with Navy taking two of three. The Midshipmen won 5-2 in the middle game, while Army needed 10 innings to win the finale 4-3 after Navy had taken the opener 3-4. Saturday’s first pitch is set for the afternoon under cloudy skies and 60-degree temperatures.
Army’s Sean Newton, a right-hander, tossed three scoreless innings of one-hit ball with two strikeouts in his last appearance. Navy counters with Beattie, who delivered four hitless innings with four strikeouts at Bucknell on Monday, and has allowed just one earned run over his last 11 innings across three outings.
The Interstat game simulator projects an 8-7 Army victory, and its ELO system gives the Black Knights a 55.7 percent probability to win.
Both teams return to the same venue Sunday for a doubleheader.
