Holy Cross at Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. (Interstat) — Holy Cross visits Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at Kamine Stadium in a Patriot League matchup as both teams look to build momentum in the final weeks of the regular season.

The Crusaders (20-25) enter on a two-game winning streak after a 7-6, 10-inning victory over Bryant on Wednesday. Holy Cross will send a bullpen that features freshman right-hander Ethan Maddies, who tossed 2⅓ innings of scoreless relief in that win, allowing two hits and striking out three. Maddies has been effective in recent appearances and could be a key factor if the game is close late.

Lafayette (10-32) snapped a five-game skid with a 14-4 rout of Saint Peter’s on Wednesday. Designated hitter Brandon Doubek led the way, going 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. Doubek has been one of the Leopards’ most consistent hitters, collecting multiple hits in four of his last five games, including a 3-for-5 performance against Lehigh on April 19. Over his last 10 games, he is batting .333 with two homers and 13 RBIs.

The Leopards have dominated the season series, sweeping a three-game set at Holy Cross in late March. Lafayette won 9-3 on March 27, then swept a doubleheader on March 29 by scores of 13-9 and 7-6. The Crusaders will be seeking their first win against the Leopards this year.

Holy Cross has struggled on the road this season but showed resilience in Wednesday’s extra-inning victory. Center fielder Liam Daly contributed a home run and an RBI in that win, while reliever Andrew Nesson pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. The Crusaders’ offense has been inconsistent, scoring 12 runs against Harvard on April 28 but managing only two runs in a loss to Lehigh two days later.

Lafayette’s pitching has been a weakness, allowing double-digit runs in five of its last seven losses. But the Leopards’ offense has shown flashes, as evidenced by the 14-run outburst on Wednesday. The Leopards have lost eight of their last 10 games overall.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Holy Cross 4, Lafayette 3, and the ELO system gives the Crusaders a 62.1 percent probability of winning. First pitch is set for Saturday afternoon under clear skies with a temperature of 58 degrees.

The two teams will meet again Sunday in a doubleheader at Kamine Stadium to conclude the three-game series.
