Vanderbilt at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Interstat) — Alabama will seek a sweep of Vanderbilt in a Southeastern Conference doubleheader Saturday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Crimson Tide (31-16, 12-10 SEC) won the first two games of the series, beating the Commodores (27-21, 9-13) 5-4 on Thursday and 5-0 on Friday. First pitch for the afternoon game is scheduled for 2 p.m., followed by the evening game at 6 p.m. The forecast calls for clouds and 61 degrees.

Alabama left-hander Zane Adams enters the doubleheader after a dominant outing Friday against Vanderbilt, allowing eight hits but no runs over six innings with six strikeouts in a 5-0 win. Adams (5-3, 4.32 ERA) has been inconsistent this season, following a scoreless, seven-strikeout performance against Texas on April 18 with a rough outing at Tennessee on April 24, when he allowed five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings of a 10-0 loss.

Vanderbilt right-hander Brennan Seiber also pitched well Friday, throwing 5 2/3 scoreless, hitless innings with three strikeouts in a losing effort. Seiber (3-2, 3.71 ERA) has been sharp recently, allowing no earned runs in 9 2/3 innings over his last four appearances, spanning a start and three relief outings dating to April 18.

The Commodores’ offense was held to four runs in the first two games of the series. Logan Johnstone went 3-for-4 in Friday’s loss. Alabama got a home run and three RBIs from left fielder Eric Hines in the win, and reliever Ashton Crowther threw three scoreless innings.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 Vanderbilt victory Saturday, and the ELO system gives the Commodores a 51.3 percent probability of winning.

Vanderbilt, which took two of three at Kentucky last weekend, will host Louisville on Tuesday before traveling to Missouri next weekend. Alabama will play at Troy on Tuesday before visiting South Carolina.
