Loyola Marymount at Pacific

STOCKTON (Interstat) — Zach Todd pitched six shutout innings with 11 strikeouts and Pacific scored six unearned runs in the second inning to beat Loyola Marymount 8-0 on Friday at Klein Family Field.

Todd allowed two hits and walked one, lowering his earned-run average while improving to 4-3 on the season. He faced the minimum through three innings and retired the side in order in the first, third and fourth frames. The right-hander struck out at least two batters in four of his six innings, including a three-strikeout fifth.

Connor Raridan followed Todd with three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out four.

Pacific’s eight-run second inning came after three fielding errors by Loyola Marymount, turning a scoreless game into a blowout. JT Shank delivered a two-run single, Brendan O’Sullivan doubled home a run, Robert Orr doubled in two more and Jake Tandy added an RBI double before Zach DenDekker relieved Lions starter Jonah Johnson.

DenDekker entered with two outs in the second and pitched 5 1/3 hitless innings, but the damage was already done. He allowed no earned runs and struck out two, but three unearned runs crossed in the fifth when Pacific added another run on a sacrifice fly by Rylan Evans after a pair of errors.

O’Sullivan finished 3 for 4 with an RBI. Orr went 1 for 4 with two RBIs, Tandy was 1 for 4 with an RBI, Evans went 1 for 2 with an RBI and Shank was 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Pacific grounded into three double plays but still managed eight hits.

Loyola Marymount mustered only three hits, all singles, and struck out 14 times. Richie Klosek, Zach Wadas and Travis Friend each had a hit for the Lions, who left four runners on base. DJ Ghiorso reached base twice on hit-by-pitches but was also caught stealing in the first inning.

Pacific improved to 18-24, while Loyola Marymount fell to 12-35. The two teams are scheduled to play Saturday and Sunday in Stockton, followed by a nonconference game Tuesday for Pacific against California. Loyola Marymount returns home to host Saint Mary’s next weekend.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Pacific 5, Loyola Marymount 2, while Interstat’s ELO system had given Loyola Marymount a 63.60 percent probability to win.
