Incarnate Word at Texas-San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — Texas-San Antonio hosts Incarnate Word on Tuesday at Roadrunner Field in a nonconference matchup between teams heading in opposite directions.
The Roadrunners (29-14) enter the game with a 12-game advantage over the Cardinals (17-23) in the win column. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 victory for the home team. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with a temperature of 89 degrees.
UTSA looks to rebound after dropping two of three at Tulane over the weekend, including a 12-7 loss Sunday. Right-hander Jake Qualia (3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER in that game) is a player to watch for the Roadrunners. Qualia has allowed two earned runs over his past 8 innings, though one of those appearances came against Incarnate Word on March 31, when he surrendered two runs in one inning of relief.
Incarnate Word has lost four straight, including an 11-4 home defeat to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday. Right-handed reliever Tanner Crispin pitched two scoreless innings in that game, striking out two. Over his past three appearances (Interstat) — all on the road (Interstat) — Crispin has not allowed a hit or an earned run across 4.2 innings, striking out four.
The teams met once earlier this season, with Incarnate Word winning 13-11 in San Antonio on March 31.
For the Cardinals, catcher Colin Cymbalista homered and drove in two runs in Sunday’s loss, while right-hander Josh Bludau tossed two scoreless innings. Outfielder Caden Miller went 2-for-5 with an RBI for UTSA in the series finale at Tulane.
Following Tuesday’s game, Incarnate Word travels to Texas-Rio Grande Valley for a three-game series starting Friday. UTSA hosts Wichita State for a three-game set beginning Friday.
