AP Sports Preview

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — Lipscomb hosts Tennessee Tech in a nonconference baseball matchup Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium.

The Bisons (19-21) will look to rebound from a 6-2 loss to Austin Peay on Sunday, while the Golden Eagles (15-30) are coming off a 4-3 defeat to Western Illinois. The forecast calls for rain and 81 degrees.

Lipscomb’s Collin BosleySmith is a pitcher to watch. The right-hander threw 5 shutout innings against North Alabama on April 19, allowing no hits while striking out eight. In his most recent outing Sunday against Austin Peay, he allowed 1 earned run on 2 hits over 5 innings with 4 strikeouts. BosleySmith has worked as both a starter and reliever this season, accumulating a 1.80 ERA over his last two appearances totaling 10 innings.

Tennessee Tech second baseman Eddie Garza provides the offensive spark. In Sunday’s loss to Western Illinois, Garza went 1-for-2 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Over his last 10 games, he has multiple hits in four contests, including a 3-for-4 performance April 19 against Southeast Missouri State with a homer and an RBI. He drove in three runs April 12 at Tennessee-Martin.

The teams met once earlier this season, with Tennessee Tech winning 7-5 on Feb. 17. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Lipscomb win.

Following Tuesday’s game, Lipscomb travels to Eastern Kentucky for a three-game series beginning Friday. Tennessee Tech visits Southern Indiana for a three-game set starting Friday.
