Florida Atlantic at Florida Gulf Coast

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Interstat) – Florida Gulf Coast hosts Florida Atlantic on Tuesday night at Swanson Stadium in a midweek non-conference clash, with the Eagles looking to build on a strong season against an Owls team struggling for consistency.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. under a forecast of 80 degrees and rain.

Florida Gulf Coast (26-16) enters with a comfortable winning record and momentum from a 13-3 rout of North Florida on Sunday. The Eagles have won four of their last six and feature one of the conference’s top arms in right-hander Hunter Possehl. The junior has been dominant in his recent outings, allowing just one earned run over 11.1 combined innings across his last two starts, including a win over Jacksonville on April 12.

Florida Atlantic (21-22) limps into the matchup following a 5-4 loss to Charlotte on Sunday, a game in which third baseman Nicholas Romano homered and drove in three runs. Romano, a player to watch, has been the Owls’ most consistent bat. Over his last 10 games, he is hitting .386 with three home runs and 14 RBIs, though he went 0 for 4 in the teams’ most recent meeting on April 14.

The Eagles won that game, 8-6, on the road. They also defeated FAU 12-4 on March 17. The Owls have split their last 10 games but own series wins over Tulane and Memphis.

The Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 victory for Florida Gulf Coast.
