Marshall at Morehead State

HALDEMAN, Ky. (Interstat) — Marshall visits Morehead State on Tuesday for a nonconference matchup at Allen Field, with both teams looking to build momentum amid inconsistent seasons. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. under clear skies and 78 degrees.

The Thundering Herd (19-23) are coming off a 1-0 loss to Troy on Sunday, a game in which right-hander Kenyon Collins delivered a strong start: 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 earned run and 6 strikeouts. Collins has been an erratic force this month. In his prior outing April 19 at South Alabama, he threw 6 scoreless, hitless innings with 5 strikeouts but took the loss. However, he was tagged for 3 earned runs in just 2/3 of an inning April 8 at West Virginia, and 3 earned runs in 2 innings April 4 at Appalachian State. The Herd have dropped four of their last five overall.

Morehead State (22-20) enters on a three-game win streak after sweeping Southern Indiana over the weekend, capped by a 17-13 slugfest Sunday. Catcher Caden Sheridan has been the Eagles’ hottest bat, going 2 for 4 with 5 RBIs in that game. He homered in the 6-5 win April 25 and has multiple hits in four of his last six contests, including a 4-for-4, 3-RBI game April 17 against Lindenwood. The Eagles have won four of six overall.

The teams met just six days ago in Huntington, with Morehead State rolling to an 11-2 victory April 22. The Eagles have won the last two meetings.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 Morehead State win.

Marshall will travel to Ohio on Wednesday; Morehead State heads to Bellarmine for a midweek contest.
