San Jose State at San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The San Jose State Spartans visit the San Francisco Dons on Tuesday at Dante Benedetti Diamond at Max Ulrich Field for a nonconference matchup. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures around 60 degrees.
San Jose State (17-23) looks to snap a three-game losing streak after dropping all three games at Air Force over the weekend, including a 11-5 loss Sunday. The Spartans have lost seven of their last 10 games but showed offensive life in a 10-7 win at California on April 15 and a series win at Fresno State on April 17-18.
San Francisco (19-21) also enters on a sour note, losing 8-2 at home to Pacific on Sunday. The Dons have dropped four of their last five games after winning three straight from April 11-18. They are 7-10 at home this season.
PITCHERS TO WATCH
San Jose State right-hander Dylan Smith (0-0, 6.00 ERA) takes the mound after a rough outing at Air Force on April 26, where he allowed four earned runs on no hits over 7.0 innings with six strikeouts in a 11-5 loss. Smith has been inconsistent, giving up one earned run over 6.0 innings at Nevada on April 12 but surrendering three earned runs in 6.0 innings against Washington State on April 4.
San Francisco counter with reliever Quentin Pohorski, who has been effective in limited action. The right-hander has allowed three earned runs over 4.1 innings with five strikeouts in his most recent appearance against Pacific on April 26. In his three previous outings, Pohorski tossed scoreless frames against Portland (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 K), San Diego (3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 3 K) and Loyola Marymount (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 4 K).
