SAN DIEGO STATE AT FRESNO STATE

FRESNO, Calif. (Interstat) — Rohan Lettow and the San Diego State Aztecs will look to complete a Mountain West series sweep Sunday evening against the Fresno State Bulldogs at Selland Arena.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies, with a forecast temperature of 64 degrees.

San Diego State (24-18) has won four of its last five games overall, including a 4-3, 11-inning victory Friday afternoon at Fresno State. The Aztecs were blanked 4-0 on Saturday in a game that did not count toward the series result as the two teams played an exhibition the previous day.

Lettow is expected to start on the mound for the Aztecs. The right-hander earned the win Friday, throwing six innings of shutout ball, allowing no hits and striking out seven while walking one. Over his last four appearances, Lettow has pitched 19 1/3 innings, allowing six earned runs with 24 strikeouts.

In Friday’s win, Lettow was supported by Aidan Russell, who pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief, allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts. Tyce Peterson went 2 for 5 with a home run and an RBI.

Fresno State (12-26) will counter with Brandon Thomas. The right-hander started Friday and pitched five innings, giving up four hits and no earned runs while striking out five in a no-decision. Thomas has a 5.74 ERA this season and has allowed three earned runs or less in four of his last six outings.

The Bulldogs have lost 13 of their last 16 games. Griffen Sotomayor hit a home run and drove in two runs in Friday’s loss. Drew Townson pitched four innings in relief, allowing seven hits and two earned runs.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-3 victory for San Diego State.

The series finale represents the final contest of the regular-season series between the two teams. San Diego State returns home Tuesday to face Cal State Fullerton before beginning a three-game Mountain West series against Nevada on May 1. Fresno State plays Wednesday at Cal State Northridge before traveling to Washington State for a three-game set starting May 1.
