Texas Southern at Prairie View
HEMPSTEAD, Texas (Interstat) — Texas Southern seeks a series sweep Sunday when it faces Prairie View in a Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball game at Tankersley Field. First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon.
The Tigers (18-14) have dominated the Panthers (5-31) in the first two games of this three-game set, winning 13-0 on Friday and 14-12 on Saturday. Texas Southern enters on a two-game winning streak after dropping two of three at Arkansas-Pine Bluff the previous weekend.
First baseman Anthony Ruiz leads the Texas Southern attack. In Saturday’s win, Ruiz went 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs. Over his last 10 games, he has recorded five multi-hit performances, including a 3-for-5, three-RBI game against Alcorn State on April 12. He is hitting .364 over that stretch.
Prairie View continues to struggle through a difficult season, having lost 10 of its last 11 games. The Panthers’ bright spot has been catcher John Lawson, who was 3 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs in Saturday’s loss. However, Lawson has been inconsistent, going hitless in four of his last six games.
The weather forecast calls for 88-degree temperatures and cloudy skies.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-1 Texas Southern victory.
After Sunday’s game, Texas Southern returns home for a three-game series against Alabama State starting May 1. Prairie View plays Houston Christian on Tuesday before traveling to Chicago for a three-game set against Alabama A&M.
