VCU at Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) — The Richmond Spiders host the VCU Rams on Friday evening at Malcolm U. Pitt Field in an Atlantic 10 clash that pits two teams with identical 23-18 records against each other.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under partly cloudy skies with temperatures around 82 degrees.
Richmond enters the contest after a dramatic 12-11 win over William & Mary on Tuesday. First baseman Dylan Winebrenner drove in four runs, including a home run, and second baseman Michael Elko went 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Winebrenner has been a consistent force at the plate, homering in three of his last four games with multiple RBIs in each of those outings.
VCU looks to snap a four-game losing streak after falling 8-6 to Virginia Tech on Tuesday. Designated hitter Jacob Lee went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs in that loss. Lee’s production has been sporadic, however. After a standout series at Fordham earlier this month where he went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBIs in a 7-6 win, Lee is 4-for-24 over his last six games.
The Rams (22-18) have struggled recently, dropping three straight to George Washington before the midweek loss to the Hokies. Their last win came April 14 against Virginia.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-5 Richmond victory. The series continues with a doubleheader Saturday and a Sunday finale as the teams jockey for position in the Atlantic 10 standings.
