Hawkeyes Rally Past Flames Behind Strong Bullpen Work

IOWA CITY, Iowa (Interstat) — The Iowa Hawkeyes erased an early four-run deficit to defeat the Illinois-Chicago Flames 6-4 on Wednesday at Duane Banks Field.

Andrew Pyszka’s three-run homer in the second inning staked the Flames to a 4-0 lead. Iowa responded in the fourth on Mitch Wood’s three-run shot and tied it later in the inning on an error. Gable Mitchell’s RBI single in the sixth put Iowa ahead for good.

Hawkeyes reliever Jaron Bleeker earned the win with 3 2/3 scoreless innings and five strikeouts, rebounding from a rough outing his last time out. Iowa’s bullpen combined for 6 1/3 innings of one-run relief. The Hawkeyes improved to 20-16-1, while the Flames fell to 15-23-1.
