Yale at Sacred Heart

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Interstat) — The Yale Bulldogs, riding a wave of momentum, will visit the Sacred Heart Pioneers in a non-conference matchup Wednesday evening at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 48 degrees.

Yale (22-11) enters on a hot streak, having won seven of its last eight games, including a 16-5 road victory over Cornell last Saturday. The Bulldogs’ offense erupted for 20 runs against New Haven on April 8 and averaged 8.6 runs during their recent three-game sweep of Princeton.

A key player to watch for Yale is reliever Ben Winslow. Over his last three appearances, spanning eight innings, he has allowed just one earned run and one hit while striking out 13 batters. He pitched three perfect innings with five strikeouts in the win over Cornell.

Sacred Heart (10-20) looks to rebound after dropping two of three at home to Merrimack last weekend. The Pioneers’ bullpen has been a bright spot, with Jase Schueller emerging as a reliable arm. In his last five outings, covering 9 2/3 innings, he has not allowed an earned run and has surrendered only three hits.

The Pioneers will need that strong pitching to counter a Yale lineup that has been prolific. In the teams’ previous meeting this season, on March 10 in New Haven, Yale secured a 4-2 victory.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair, favoring Yale 8-5.

Following this game, Yale begins an Ivy League series at Columbia on Saturday. Sacred Heart opens a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series at home against Siena on Friday.
