Lehigh at Saint Peter`s

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum late in a difficult season will meet Wednesday when the Lehigh Mountain Hawks visit the Saint Peter’s Peacocks for a non-conference afternoon matchup at Joseph J. Jaroschak Field.

First pitch is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon under clear skies with temperatures near 52 degrees.

The Mountain Hawks (11-26) enter having dropped three of their last four, including a 7-3 loss at Lafayette on Sunday. The Peacocks (4-32) have lost five straight, most recently an 8-5 defeat to Iona on Sunday.

A key matchup could feature relievers on recent hot streaks. Lehigh’s Jake Mulvehill has not allowed a hit in his last two appearances, spanning 8.0 innings. In Sunday’s loss at Lafayette, he threw 4.2 hitless innings in relief, striking out five. For Saint Peter’s, Logan Wenzel is coming off one of his best outings of the season, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts against Iona on Sunday.

The teams met earlier this season on March 11, with Saint Peter’s claiming a 12-3 road victory.

Lehigh’s offense showed explosive potential in a 38-6 rout of Coppin State on April 14, but has been inconsistent since. Catcher Owen Walewander, who homered in Sunday’s game, provides a power threat. Saint Peter’s will look to build on a 15-5 win over Lafayette last week, with infielders Allen Ramos and Max Doninger coming off productive games.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Lehigh is projected to win 5-1.

Following this game, Lehigh will begin a Patriot League series at Holy Cross on Saturday. Saint Peter’s opens a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series at home against Niagara on Friday.
