Quinnipiac at Marist

Metro Atlantic Conference Baseball Preview: Quinnipiac at Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Marist Red Foxes will look to secure a series victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday afternoon at James J. McCann Baseball Field in the second game of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series.

First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon under cloudy skies with temperatures near 63 degrees.

Marist (11-19) took the series opener 7-5 on Friday night. The Red Foxes rallied with a four-run seventh inning to overcome a 5-3 deficit. Nathan Lincoln went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and AJ Brotz added two RBIs for Marist in the win.

Quinnipiac (13-18) saw its early lead vanish despite a strong start from James Pazdera, who pitched five innings of hitless relief but allowed four earned runs. The Bobcats have lost three of their last four games.

A key matchup will feature pitchers coming off appearances in Friday’s contest. Quinnipiac’s Pazdera, a player to watch, is expected to start. He has been inconsistent, mixing a six-inning, one-run win over Saint Peter’s on March 27 with shorter outings where he has struggled with command.

Marist’s player to watch, Andrew Fierro, delivered four scoreless innings of relief to earn the win on Friday. His recent outings have varied, including a tough loss at Rider on April 2 where he surrendered five earned runs in 2 2/3 innings.

The Interstat game simulator projects a close contest, favoring Quinnipiac 6-5.

Both teams are seeking momentum in MAAC play. Following Saturday’s game, the series concludes Sunday afternoon in Poughkeepsie.
