Bryant at Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Interstat) — Bryant visits Marist on Friday in the first game of a doubleheader at James J. McCann Baseball Field. First pitch is scheduled for a rainy 56 degrees.

The Bulldogs (26-22) carry a 67.50 percent win probability according to Interstat’s ELO system, which projects a 6-5 final. Marist enters at 19-28.

Bryant is coming off a dominant 11-1 win over Stonehill on Tuesday. Right-hander Jackson Vanesko threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts, lowering his ERA after allowing one earned run in a loss at Holy Cross on April 29. Vanesko is a player to watch out of the bullpen.

Shortstop Justin Hackett went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in that win, and right-hander Greg Gorman added two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Marist enters after a 12-7 loss at Fairfield on Sunday. Right fielder Chris Diaz went 1-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. Diaz has been productive over his last 10 games, collecting multiple hits in six of them while driving in 14 runs. He homered against Albany on April 28 and Merrimack on April 25.

Shortstop AJ Brotz had two hits and an RBI against Fairfield. Right-hander Steven Mazza threw 3⅔ scoreless innings in that loss.

The Red Foxes have dropped two of their last three. They lost 4-0 at Fairfield on May 8 before bouncing back with a 4-3 win in the second game of that doubleheader. Marist beat Albany 12-10 on May 5 and split a series with Sacred Heart.

Bryant has won three of its last four. After the Stonehill rout, the Bulldogs took two of three from Maryland-Baltimore County, winning 4-3 on May 10 before dropping the series finale 7-5. They won 20-10 at Merrimack on May 5.

The Bulldogs are 12-12 on the road. Marist is 7-13 at home.

Both teams are scheduled to play a second game following this opener.
