Eastern Kentucky at Bellarmine
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — Eastern Kentucky visits Bellarmine on Thursday in a split doubleheader at Knights Field, as the ASUN rivals meet for the first time since the Knights swept a three-game series in April.
The Colonels (14-37) and Knights (19-31) will play an afternoon game and an evening game, with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. Forecasters call for clouds and a temperature of 75 degrees at game time.
Bellarmine won all three games at Eastern Kentucky from April 10-12, outscoring the Colonels 35-24. The Knights have lost five straight since that series, most recently falling 14-7 at Louisville on Tuesday. Eastern Kentucky enters having lost 10 of its last 11, including a 15-2 defeat at Austin Peay on Sunday.
Player to watch for Eastern Kentucky: Catcher Silas Shaffer. The Colonels’ backstop is 7 for 27 over his last nine games with two home runs and three RBIs. He homered and drove in a run in Sunday’s loss, his only hit in two at-bats.
Player to watch for Bellarmine: Right-hander Raygan New. The Knights’ pitcher has logged 4 2/3 innings in each of his last two outings, both losses at Lipscomb, allowing two earned runs and three strikeouts in each. He surrendered two earned runs in two innings Tuesday at Louisville.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-2 Eastern Kentucky win, while Interstat’s ELO system gives Bellarmine a 50.30 percent probability of victory.
The doubleheader marks the first two games of a three-game weekend series. The teams conclude the set with a single game Friday and another Saturday.
