Northeastern at Towson

TOWSON, Md. (Interstat) — The Northeastern Huskies and Towson Tigers will meet Thursday evening in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at John B. Schuerholz Baseball Complex, with the first-place Huskies seeking to extend their dominance over a struggling Tigers squad.

Northeastern (32-18) enters the game riding a wave of momentum after a 10-6 win Tuesday at Connecticut. The Huskies have won eight of their last 10 games and swept Towson in a three-game series March 13-15 in Boston, outscoring the Tigers 12-6.

Towson (20-30) has lost four of its last six but earned a dramatic 9-8 home win Tuesday against Maryland-Baltimore County, rallying behind a monstrous performance from right fielder Keldrin Rodriguez.

The forecast calls for rain and 70 degrees at game time.

Northeastern catcher Will Fosberg is a player to watch after a 3-for-5, three-RBI performance Tuesday. The backstop has been inconsistent recently, going hitless in four of his last five games but delivering in the clutch.

Rodriguez is the Tigers’ key threat. The right fielder erupted Tuesday for a 3-for-5 line with two home runs and seven RBIs. He has four home runs and 12 RBIs over his last five games, though he also has four hitless outings in his last eight.

The Huskies have been dominant against CAA competition, outscoring Stony Brook 34-7 in a three-game sweep May 8-10. Northeastern took two of three at Monmouth the previous weekend.

Towson has been erratic, splitting a four-game series at William & Mary last weekend and losing 14-1 at Villanova on May 6.

Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-5 Northeastern victory, and the service’s ELO system gives the Huskies an 86 percent probability to win.

The teams will play again Friday and Saturday, also in Towson, to conclude the three-game series.
