Tennessee Tech at Lindenwood (MO)

SAINT CHARLES, Mo. (Interstat) — Lindenwood (MO) seeks a three-game Ohio Valley Conference sweep Sunday evening as it hosts Tennessee Tech at Robert F. Hyland Performance Arena. First pitch is set for a clear evening with temperatures near 77 degrees.

The Lions (27-22, 13-10 OVC) have won the first two games of the series by narrow margins, including a 4-3 victory Saturday and a 6-5 win in 10 innings Friday. Lindenwood is aiming to build momentum ahead of a road trip to Indiana State on Tuesday, followed by a three-game series at Southern Indiana beginning Thursday.

Tennessee Tech (17-34, 5-18) has lost five of its last six games overall. The Golden Eagles dropped two of three at Southern Indiana last weekend, then fell in the first two games of this series. Their most recent win came April 28 against Lipscomb.

A player to watch for Tennessee Tech is right-hander Jaxson Pease. Pease started Saturday’s game against Lindenwood, taking a no-decision after throwing 4 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs and no hits with four strikeouts. Over his last five outings, Pease has a 5.78 ERA across 18 2/3 innings, with 14 strikeouts and 12 earned runs allowed. Two of those appearances were quality starts — a five-inning, scoreless outing against Western Illinois on April 25 and a 5 1/3-inning, two-run effort at Southern Indiana on May 2.

For Lindenwood, right-hander Seth Benes has been dominant. Benes earned the win Saturday, throwing six innings of one-run ball, scattering five hits and striking out six. In his last four starts, Benes has a 1.74 ERA, allowing four earned runs over 26 2/3 innings while striking out 25. He pitched seven scoreless innings against Morehead State on April 18 and allowed one run in seven innings against Arkansas-Little Rock on April 25.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 5-4 Lindenwood victory.

Following Sunday’s contest, Lindenwood heads to Terre Haute, Indiana, to face Indiana State on Tuesday, then travels to Southern Indiana for a three-game set. Tennessee Tech returns home to host Morehead State for three games starting Thursday.
