HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Interstat) — Caleb Granger pitched four dominant innings and Florida A&M defeated Alabama A&M 6-2 on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in the first game of a Southwestern Athletic doubleheader at Bulldog Field.

Granger, who allowed only one earned run on zero hits and struck out six, set the tone early for the Rattlers, who improved to 24-22. The Bulldogs fell to 7-41 after dropping their 11th straight decision.

Florida A&M jumped ahead in the top of the first inning. Will Brown doubled to center field, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Jay Campbell. The Rattlers added three more runs in the second. Ethan Miller singled, Alex Monile reached on a fielder’s choice, and Matthew Perez singled to put runners at first and second. After Josue Figueroa struck out, Jordan Brown doubled to center field, driving in Monile and moving Perez to third. Brown later scored on a groundout.

Alabama A&M answered in the bottom of the second. Isaac Castro singled to second base, and KJ Stanfield tripled to right field, driving in Castro. Stanfield was left stranded as Tervell Johnson grounded out and DeVante Wells grounded out.

Granger settled in after the Bulldogs’ run. He struck out the side in the third, working around a pair of singles and an error to escape the inning without further damage. He finished his outing with six strikeouts over four innings, allowing just that one unearned run.

Tanner Walker relieved Granger to start the fifth and pitched three scoreless innings, striking out three and allowing no hits.

The Rattlers padded their lead in the fifth. Jordan Brown singled, then Brown scored on a double to left by Campbell. Jackson McKenzie followed with a single to right that drove in Campbell and Caden Kresak, who had walked, to make it 6-1.

Figueroa added a solo home run to left field in the sixth, his first of the game.

Alabama A&M scored its final run in the seventh. With Walker still on the mound, Colin Mason walked, Miles Jackson walked, and Brycen Hammonds reached on a two-base error by second baseman Will Brown, loading the bases. Tarris Murray singled to left, scoring Mason and moving the runners up. But Walker struck out Zak Rice, got Isaac Castro looking and induced a fielder’s choice from AJ Anderson to end the game.

Florida A&M totaled 10 hits to Alabama A&M’s five. Brown went 3 for 3 with a double and a RBI. Campbell was 1 for 3 with two RBI. Figueroa homered and drove in a run. Stanfield had a triple and a RBI for the Bulldogs. Anthony Mateo took the loss for Alabama A&M, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits over six innings with one strikeout. Antonio Torres pitched a scoreless seventh with one strikeout.

Granger’s performance marked a bounce-back after a difficult outing May 2 against Grambling, where he allowed five earned runs in six innings. The Rattlers evened the three-game series after dropping Thursday’s opener 9-8 to the Bulldogs.
