Towson at William & Mary
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Interstat) — Joey Tuttoilmondo threw six innings of no-hit relief and Towson held off a late William & Mary rally to win 11-10 on Saturday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
The Tigers evened the Colonial Athletic Association series after losing the opener 15-3 on Friday. Towson improved to 19-29 overall; William & Mary dropped to 20-28.
Tuttoilmondo, a right-handed pitcher, entered in the second inning with Towson trailing 6-4. He retired 18 of the 22 batters he faced, striking out seven and allowing two earned runs on zero hits. The performance came after a string of short outings in which he had logged a combined three innings over his previous three appearances.
Towson’s offense backed him with an 11-run, 12-hit attack. The game featured five home runs and four lead changes.
William & Mary struck first in the bottom of the first, sending 11 men to the plate and scoring six runs on five hits, including a two-run ground-rule double by Anthony Greco and an RBI single by Chase Ecker. The Tribe added two more in the second on a two-run homer by Louis Bartletti, his sixth of the season, to open an 8-4 lead.
Towson answered in the fourth. AJ Kolb led off with a two-run homer and Brian Heckelman followed with a solo shot. Later in the inning, Frank Adamski Jr. scored on a single by Janove to tie the game 8-8.
The Tigers grabbed the lead for good in the fifth. With two outs, Heckelman walked and Rodriguez reached on an error. Adamski Jr. then launched a three-run homer to left field, his first of the season, putting Towson ahead 11-8.
William & Mary chipped away in the eighth. Jack Laskofski walked, stole second and scored on a single by Bartletti. Matthew Kosuda followed with a sacrifice fly to bring the Tribe within 11-10.
The Tribe threatened again in the ninth. Chase Ecker singled, and after a walk and a sacrifice bunt, William & Mary had runners at second and third with one out. Laskofski was intentionally walked to load the bases, but Kaczmarek grounded into a double play to end the game.
Bartletti finished 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs for William & Mary. Kosuda was 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Ecker added three hits. Matt Lynch earned the save for Towson, pitching 1 2/3 hitless innings with one strikeout.
Kolb went 3 for 6 with a home run and two RBIs. Max D’Alessandro had three hits and Heckelman added a solo homer.
