Stephen F. Austin at Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — Stephen F. Austin visits Incarnate Word on Friday afternoon at Roadrunner Field, with the Lumberjacks seeking to build momentum after a 4-2 victory over the Cardinals in the series opener Thursday.

First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 68 degrees.

SFA brings a 25-23 overall record into the matchup, while Incarnate Word is 17-28.

The Lumberjacks’ bullpen was pivotal in Thursday’s win. Right-hander Brennan Greer tossed three scoreless, hitless innings with two strikeouts. Over his last four appearances spanning 7 2/3 innings, Greer has allowed one earned run and struck out seven. Relievers Elian Balmaceda (four innings, two earned runs, two strikeouts) and Reid Bowyer (two shutout innings) also contributed.

SFA has won three of its last four games after dropping three of four to Nicholls State and losing two of three at home to McNeese State. The Lumberjacks’ offense has been inconsistent, scoring five or more runs in only two of their last seven contests.

Incarnate Word has lost six of its last seven games. The Cardinals’ pitching staff has allowed 10 or more runs four times during that span.

Right-hander Josh Bludau is a key arm out of the UIW bullpen. He took the loss Thursday, allowing one earned run on two hits with one strikeout in three innings. Over his last six appearances spanning 11 2/3 innings, Bludau has a 3.09 ERA with nine strikeouts, though he has been charged with the loss in three of his last four outings.

The Cardinals’ offense managed only two runs on Thursday. Starter Zac Colletti allowed five hits and two earned runs over four innings with three strikeouts.

Friday’s game is the second of a three-game series between the Southland Conference rivals. The teams will meet again Saturday and Sunday, also at Roadrunner Field.
