Loyola Marymount at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Pacific Tigers host the Loyola Marymount Lions in the final game of a three-game West Coast Conference series Sunday evening at Klein Family Field, with clear skies and a game-time temperature of 70 degrees expected.

Pacific (18-24) won the first two games of the series by identical 8-0 scores on Friday and Saturday, outscoring Loyola Marymount 16-0. The Tigers have won four of their last five games overall. Loyola Marymount (12-35), meanwhile, has lost six of its last seven contests and has been shut out in three of its past four games.

Righthander Zach Todd is scheduled to start for Pacific after a dominant performance against the Lions on Friday, when he pitched six innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs while striking out 11. Todd has been outstanding in four recent starts, posting a 1.32 ERA over 23⅓ innings with 26 strikeouts. He has allowed only one earned run in three of those outings.

Loyola Marymount will counter with righthander Zachary DenDekker, who also pitched Friday, going 5⅓ innings without allowing a hit or an earned run. DenDekker has been effective in three of his past four appearances, including a 5⅓-inning scoreless outing at Seattle on April 12 in which he struck out six. However, he was tagged for five earned runs in three innings in a start against Pepperdine on April 19.

Pacific has won three of the four meetings between the teams this season. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-2 victory for the Tigers, who have outscored Loyola Marymount 31-5 over the past four head-to-head matchups.

Loyola Marymount’s offense has struggled, scoring two runs or fewer in eight of its past 10 games. The Lions managed only one run in a three-game series at Gonzaga last weekend, during which they were outscored 25-4.

Pacific is scheduled to host California on Tuesday, while Loyola Marymount returns home to face UCLA on Tuesday. The Tigers then host San Diego for a three-game series starting Friday, and the Lions welcome Saint Mary’s for a weekend series beginning Friday.
