Morehead State at Arkansas-Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Interstat) — The Morehead State Eagles and Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans conclude their three-game Ohio Valley Conference series Sunday afternoon at Mims Gym, with first pitch set for 70 degrees and cloudy skies.

Morehead State (24-20) enters following a 1-0 win Friday, in which Callum McGill threw seven shutout innings, allowing no hits with four strikeouts. The Eagles dropped Saturday’s contest by an undisclosed score.

Arkansas-Little Rock (26-20) looks to bounce back after Friday’s loss, its first defeat in four games. Brannon Westmoreland matched McGill’s dominance Friday, fanning 10 over seven innings while allowing only three hits and no earned runs.

McGill has been a steady force for the Eagles. In his past four starts, he owns a 1.77 ERA over 20 ⅓ innings, including a one-hit, one-earned-run outing against Southern Indiana on April 24. Westmoreland counters with even sharper numbers: over his last three outings, he has tossed 23 ⅔ innings without allowing an earned run, including a nine-inning, no-hit shutout at Lindenwood on April 24.

The Trojans have won four of their last six and own a potent offense, averaging 5.9 runs per game. Morehead State has been more inconsistent, splitting its last six contests while surrendering 6.2 runs per contest.

Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-6 victory for the Eagles, a departure from the pitchers’ duel that defined Friday’s series opener.

Sunday’s outcome carries significant implications for OVC positioning, with both teams jockeying for a favorable seed in the conference tournament.

After this series, Morehead State returns home for a three-game set against Western Illinois, starting May 8, while Arkansas-Little Rock hosts Arkansas State on Tuesday before traveling to Tennessee-Martin for a weekend series.
