Longwood at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. (Interstat) — Longwood and High Point conclude their three-game Big South series Sunday evening at George S. Erath Field at Coy O. Williard Baseball Stadium, with the visiting Lancers looking to capture the set after splitting the first two games.

Longwood (27-18) won Friday’s opener 6-5 before High Point (29-16) evened the series Saturday. The Panthers hold a two-game edge in the conference standings entering the finale.

The pitching matchup features a pair of arms who faced each other Friday. Right-hander Jaxon Lloyd is expected to start for Longwood. In the series opener, Lloyd threw 6.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on zero hits while striking out six. The performance continued a dominant stretch: in his last four starts, Lloyd has allowed three earned runs or fewer in each, including eight innings of three-run ball against Presbyterian on April 17.

High Point counters with right-hander Wade Walton. On Friday, Walton pitched five innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs with four strikeouts, but did not factor in the decision. Walton has been less consistent recently, surrendering seven earned runs in a 3.2-inning outing at Charleston Southern on April 17.

The forecast calls for 54 degrees and cloudy skies at first pitch.

Longwood’s offense has leaned on first baseman Jon Howard, who homered and drove in four runs in Friday’s win. High Point left fielder Jake McCarter provided a bright spot Friday with a home run and three RBIs.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 victory for Longwood, a similar margin to Friday’s result.

The series marks the final home stand of the regular season for High Point. The Panthers host Winthrop next weekend, while Longwood returns home to face Richmond on Tuesday.
