Elon at William & Mary
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Interstat) — The Elon Phoenix and William & Mary Tribe will play a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader Sunday at Plumeri Park, with first pitch scheduled for the afternoon.
The second game is set for the evening. The forecast calls for 57 degrees and cloudy.
Elon brings a 17-27 record into the day. William & Mary is 20-23.
The series has been tightly contested. William & Mary won Friday’s opener 5-4 in 12 innings, and the teams split a three-game set in Elon earlier this month. The Tribe took two of three in that series, winning 13-1 and 9-6 before dropping the finale 9-4.
For Elon, right-hander Sam Nomura is a key arm out of the bullpen. The pitcher threw 5 shutout innings in Friday’s loss, allowing no hits and one earned run with two strikeouts. Over his last seven appearances, Nomura has allowed two earned runs in 15 2/3 innings, striking out seven. He also earned a win against the Tribe on April 12, pitching 2 scoreless innings.
William & Mary shortstop Jamie Laskofski is the top hitter to watch. He went 4-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs in Friday’s win. Over his last 10 games, Laskofski is hitting .444 with three homers and 13 RBIs. He has reached base safely in 16 of his last 18 contests.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 William & Mary victory.
Elon continues its road trip Tuesday at South Carolina Upstate. William & Mary hosts George Mason on Tuesday.
