Texas-Arlington at Texas Christian
FORT WORTH, Texas (Interstat) — Texas Christian, boasting a powerful offense and a 28-15 record, hosts Texas-Arlington on Wednesday at Lupton Stadium in a nonconference matchup slated for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch, with rain in the forecast and temperatures at 61 degrees.
The Horned Frogs enter the game as decisive favorites, with Interstat’s game simulator projecting a 7-3 victory and its ELO system giving TCU an 85 percent probability to win. TCU has won seven of its last nine games, including a dominant 14-2 victory over Houston on Sunday in which third baseman Jack Bell went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Bell, a player to watch, is batting .333 over his last five games, with two homers and eight RBIs in that span.
TCU took the earlier meeting this season, though the Mavericks won the most recent head-to-head matchup, an 11-8 decision on Feb. 17 in Arlington.
Texas-Arlington (16-26) is seeking to halt a three-game losing streak after falling 6-2 at Baylor on Tuesday. The Mavericks have dropped five of their last six. A key player to watch is right-handed pitcher Charlie Geise, who threw 2⅓ scoreless innings against the Bears, allowing no hits and one earned run while striking out one. Geise has posted a 12.86 ERA in three relief appearances this month, spanning 4⅓ innings, with four earned runs allowed.
TCU is coming off a three-game sweep of Houston. The Horned Frogs outscored the Cougars 26-7 in the series. In addition to Bell’s performance, designated hitter Brady Dallimore drove in six runs Sunday, going 3-for-3, and right-hander Zack James struck out two over five scoreless innings.
The Horned Frogs are projected to send a starting pitcher who has not yet been announced. Texas-Arlington’s starter is also to be determined.
After Wednesday, TCU travels to Oklahoma State for a three-game Big 12 series starting Friday. Texas-Arlington opens a three-game home set against Utah Tech on May 8. The Mavericks are 2-10 on the road this season.
