Stetson Hatters vs. UCF Knights
LAKELAND, Fla. (Interstat) — UCF hosts Stetson in a nonconference baseball matchup Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Joker Marchant Stadium. The forecast calls for 74 degrees and cloudy skies.
The Knights (25-15) enter the contest having won four straight, including a three-game sweep at Utah over the weekend. UCF outscored the Utes 34-6 in the series, capped by a 10-0 shutout Saturday. Zak Skinner, a designated hitter and first baseman, leads the offense. Over his past four games, Skinner is batting .529 (9 for 17) with one home run and six RBIs, including a 4-for-5, four-RBI performance Saturday.
The Hatters (18-25) have won three in a row, all on the road at West Georgia, outscoring the Wolves 43-32. Jack Harley, who plays third base and second base, went 4 for 5 with two RBIs in Sunday’s 13-11 victory. Over his past five games, Harley is hitting .368 (7 for 19) with one homer and three RBIs, though he recorded just one hit in his previous three contests before the West Georgia series.
In the teams’ most recent meeting March 24, Stetson defeated UCF 8-4 in DeLand, Florida. The Hatters will look to replicate that success behind Harley, while the Knights aim to build on their momentum and extend their winning streak.
UCF’s pitching has been dominant recently. Camden Wicker threw seven innings of no-hit ball with five strikeouts in Saturday’s win over Utah. The Knights have allowed two or fewer runs in three of their past four games.
Stetson’s bullpen also performed well Sunday as Thrasher Steed tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 UCF victory, and the ELO system gives the Knights a 63.2 percent probability of winning.
After this game, UCF opens a home series against Arizona State on Friday, while Stetson returns home to face Florida Gulf Coast in a three-game set starting the same day.
