South Florida at Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — Brody DeLamielleure went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Florida State to a 9-1 victory over South Florida on Wednesday evening at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium.

The Seminoles improved to 30-14 overall, while the Bulls fell to 28-16.

Florida State seized control with a five-run first inning. After two walks loaded the bases, DeLamielleure lined a two-run single to left field. Later in the inning, a fielding error on a single by Putnam allowed a third run to score, and another error on a ground ball by Sheffield pushed two more unearned runs across. The Bulls managed only one run in the fourth when Correa doubled and scored on Trippel’s single up the middle, but Florida State answered immediately.

Cmeyla drove in a run with a single in the fifth, and Putnam added an RBI groundout. DeLamielleure sealed the victory in the seventh with a solo home run to deep left. South Florida could not overcome the early deficit, despite solid relief outings from Dominic Pontbriant (2 2/3 hitless innings, one strikeout) and Brisen Tweedy (two hitless innings, two strikeouts).

Florida State’s pitching committee held the Bulls to six hits. Cooper Whited started and allowed one earned run over four innings, striking out four. Brodie Purcell struck out three in a perfect sixth, and Gabe Nard, Cade O’Leary, Cole Stokes and Manny Lantigua combined for four scoreless innings with eight strikeouts.

The Bulls had a chance in the ninth when Mirza and Earley strung together two-out singles, but a pinch hitter for Brenczewski flied out to end the game.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Florida State 5, South Florida 4, while Interstat’s ELO system had given the Seminoles a 78 percent probability of winning.
