Saint Peter`s at Lafayette
EASTON, Pa. (Interstat) — The Saint Peter’s Peacocks will take on the Lafayette Leopards on Wednesday afternoon at Kamine Stadium, with the opening pitch scheduled under cloudy skies and temperatures around 55 degrees.
Saint Peter’s (4-37) owns the worst record in the conference and has lost nine consecutive games. The Peacocks were defeated Tuesday at Wagner, 12-9, despite a strong offensive showing from third baseman Alex Manent, who went 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Manent has been one of the few consistent hitters for Saint Peter’s, driving in at least one run in four of his past five games. Over that stretch, he has collected six hits and six RBIs, though the team has not won any of those contests.
Lafayette (9-32) has also struggled this season but arrives at Kamine Stadium after a gut-wrenching 9-8 loss in 10 innings at Army on Monday. Right-hander Ben Waterman gave the Leopards a strong outing in that game, tossing seven innings, allowing no hits and striking out seven, though he was charged with five earned runs. Waterman has been Lafayette’s most reliable starter despite an inconsistent April. He held Lehigh to three earned runs over six innings in a win on April 19.
The two teams met once earlier this season, with Saint Peter’s earning a 15-5 home victory on April 15. The Peacocks scored in five different innings in that game, while Manent went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
The Peacocks will likely send Frankie Caietta to the mound, but a starter has not been confirmed. Caietta pitched three scoreless innings in Tuesday’s loss. Lafayette is expected to start Waterman, who will be making his second appearance against Saint Peter’s this season.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a low-scoring affair, forecasting a 2-1 Lafayette victory. The ELO system gives the Leopards a 77.6 percent probability of winning.
Saint Peter’s will travel to Siena for a three-game series starting Friday, while Lafayette hosts Holy Cross for a three-game set beginning Saturday.
