Goodin Powers Vanderbilt Past Xavier in Midweek Rout

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — Tommy Goodin drove in five runs, including a three-run homer in the first inning, to lead Vanderbilt to an 11-1 victory over Xavier on Tuesday evening at Ken Dugan Field.

Goodin went 3 for 4 with a sacrifice fly, snapping a brief hitless streak. His early blast erased a 1-0 lead given to the Musketeers by Clay Burdette’s solo home run in the top of the first. Ryker Waite added a grand slam in the fifth inning for the Commodores.

Vanderbilt pitchers Jacob Faulkner, Jakob Schulz and Nate Schlote combined to allow just one run over eight innings. Xavier managed only five hits. Vanderbilt improved to 25-17, while Xavier fell to 19-23.
